February 26 City Council Meeting

During the Birmingham City Council Meeting held Tuesday, February 26, 2013, Council:

1. Delayed for one week a Resolution relative to the application of A & A Enterprise LLC for a Lounge Retail Liquor Class II License to be used at A & A Discount Store, 3400 – 26th Street North Suite B, Birmingham, and the hearing of all interested parties. For more information, contact the office of Birmingham City Councilor Johnathan Austin at 254.2678.

2. Placed on consent a Resolution assenting to the vacation of 5,998.43 square feet of the Block 12 alley that runs parallel to and between Rev. Abraham Woods, Jr. Boulevard (8th Avenue North) and 9th Avenue North and perpendicular to and between 14th Street North and 15th Street North, on behalf of Airgas, USA, LLC and Darlene Phillips, owners, so that a new US Treasury Building can be constructed.

3. Approved a Resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute an addendum to the agreement with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) under which the City, with the Gulf South Conference, will host the 2013 Division II National Championships Festival at the Birmingham CrossPlex, March 3 – 9, 2013, and the NCAA will reimburse the City for expenditures made in support of the event from ticket revenues.

4. Approved a Resolution accepting and approving the bid of APAC Mid-South, Inc., Birmingham, for the purchase of plant mix asphalt for the Eastern and Western Sections of Birmingham as needed at unit prices on file in the office of the Purchasing Agent for a period of one (1) year and month to month thereafter, not to exceed a term of thirty-six (36) months for the Public Works Department, this being the lowest bid submitted.

5. Appointed the following twenty-three (23) members to the Emergency Medical Services Committee:

1. The Administration Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 2:00 p.m., in Conference Rooms D & E.

2. The Committee of the Whole is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 4:00 p.m., in Conference Rooms D & E.

3. The final date to submit a letter of interest and resume for the District 6 Council Seat is on Thursday, February 28, 2013. Persons interested in filling the position should submit a letter of interest and resume to Cheryl Anderson Kidd, Esq., Council Administrator, via mail at 710 North 20th Street, Birmingham, AL 35203.

4. The Economic Development Committee is scheduled to meet on Monday, March 4, 2013, in Conference Rooms D & E.

5. The Birmingham City Council will hold Library Board Interviews on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, 2:00 p.m., in Conference Room D.

6. The Education Committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, 3:30 p.m., in Conference Room A.

7. The Transportation and Communication Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, 12:30 p.m., in Conference Room A.

8. The Joint Public Safety and Technology Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, 2:00 p.m., in Council Chambers.

9. There are three (3) vacancies on the Commercial Development Authority. To apply, you may not be an officer of the state, county or city and must be a duly qualified elector of the City of Birmingham. 10. Birmingham City Council President Roderick V. Royal seeks to fill two (2) vacancies on the Birmingham Historical Commission. To apply, you must be a resident of the City of Birmingham; a representative of professional historian, and a representative of professional planners/architects.
