Birmingham Police Department: Officer Lang
shooting at railroad park (15yr old kid, second shooting). Housing project feuds;
Railroad park is a private park. Several discarded guns found after shooting. Increased
panhandling. “Prune face” sex offender on pink bike panhandling. Derrick Doke “monkey man” panhandler form Norwood. Skate Park is moving. The state (of Alabama) will be dismantling the park.

Councilor Jonathan Austin: passed bond referendum. Bonds sold yesterday (4%
interest). There was a $75 million dollar bond issue, including $1 million dollars for road
paving in District 5. Shooting at Railroad Park was not random. The shooting was
between known parties. J. Austin said that there was as estimated 1000 kids at the park
during the shooting. J. Austin is requesting additional police enforcement at the park and
working with police to curb youth violence at parks. Parents are dropping children off at

The Birmingham Comprehensive Plan is now complete in draft form and is available for review and comment by the general public on the City of Birmingham Comprehensive Plan website, http://www.BirminghamComprehensivePlan.com. Hard copies of the draft Plan are available to review in the Avondale, Central, Eastwood, Five Points West, North Birmingham, Springville Road, East Ensley, East Lake, and West End libraries, as well as in the city planning offices, located on the 5th floor of City Hall.
Comments on the Plan can be given via email through the Comprehensive Plan website or by leaving comments on comment sheets at one of the libraries or in the planning offices in City Hall during the entire month of March. The Plan will be presented for public comments and adoption by the Birmingham Planning Commission on April 4, 2013 at 6:00 PM in the City Council Chambers and then will be presented for adoption by the City Council.
5. New Business
John Mills, new president of 5 Points South Neighborhood Association has suggested a joint mixer between 5 Points South NA and Central City NA.
Email ideas to Pat Ballard. Railroad Park is the likely venue.
Melissa, owner of Sojourns, will be asking for donations for Downtown Street Fair next month.
