Minutes of the Central City Neighborhood Association Meeting

1. Call to Order
Adoption of Agenda. Motion by Lisa Perez; 2nd by Richard Burton. Approved w/o objection
Approval of July 22, 2014 Minutes; Mtn by Mike Perez, 2nd by David Higginbotham. Approved w/o objection
2. Open Reports
Birmingham Police Department: Officer Eastis present. No major issues. David H talked about someone hanging around in the loft district.
Birmingham Fire Department
Public Works: Anthony Henry present. Patty Pilkerton informed about remaining debris around the Liberty House, including nails and construction debris on Morris Avenue in the street and sidewalk. Storm Sewer covers at intersection of 23rd ST N and 5th AVE N and at 3rd AVE N and 22nd ST N.
Space OneEleven: Cheryl Lewis present. There is a comedian coming to do presentations during Artwalk. Summer camp art exhibits will be up during Artwalk
Councilor Austin: Kamiliah Gray was there for him. There will be a workshop for neighborhood officers at 6:00 PM on Monday Sept at City Hall. Specific location TBA.
Fun Day Oct 19 from 4 – 7 at Railroad Park
3. CCNA Funds balance: After payment of the $3,400 approved by CCNA in January for benches on 2nd Avenue, the Capital fund will be $0.
After payment of $1,000 to Sojourns for the Street Fair, as approved at the March meeting, payment of $1,000 for the CCNA/Park Place Apartments Fun Day, approved at the May meeting, and payment of $2,000 for Art Walk as approved at the July meeting, the Non-cap fund will be $3,289.24.
At this time, we still only get $2,000 per year from the City.

5. New Business: Request from the National Veterans Day Association, Mark Ryan, for participation in decorating the downtown streetscape for Veterans’ Day. The parade route has been reversed somewhat from prior years. His phone # is 205-602-8593; Also, he requested approval from CCNA for support to name Short 20th for Raymond Weeks.
Mtn by Mike Perez for resolution by the CCNA to support the efforts of the National Veterans Day Association to have Short 20th Street named “Raymond Weeks Blvd” or a similar name in honor of Raymond Weeks, who started the first National Veterans Day Parade; 2nd by David Kassouf. Approved w/o objection.
Request for a Restaurant Retail liquor license by Ken Effinger of Corretti, Inc. for a restaurant and event center to be located at the Florentine Building, 2101 2nd Avenue North. 16 yeas; 0 nays; 1 abstention.
6. Announcements: There will be another Community Involvement meeting with ALDOT regarding the I-20/59 rebuild project in the central business district. This meeting will be from 4 – 7 PM on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Fountain Heights Community Center, 1101 15th Avenue North.
Neighborhood Officer elections are coming up on October 28th. If you are interested in becoming an officer, please contact the CRR.
